Compensation claim follows sunlounger injury

A man whose life was ruined when he was struck on the head by a sunlounger that blew off a pub roof has been awarded £1 million in personal injury compensation.

The Essex man was standing in the street in Romford when the piece of patio equipment was caught in a gust of wind and toppled from a pub terrace above him. Hitting him on the back of the head, it left him with a severe neck injury and paramedics were called to the scene.

He was taken to hospital but it soon became clear that the incident had caused more harm than was initially thought. In fact, such was the extent of the neck injury that it triggered a depressive psychosis. This led to him developing a paranoid nature and he started to become extremely suspicious of anybody he met.

The man's mental health was affected so badly that he was unable to continue running his pallet business and the company closed down.

His personal injury compensation claim was made at London's High Court and it is hoped the money awarded will be used to provide the very best treatment that will eventually enable him to return to work.
