Car crash - level crossing accident
A car crash accident on a level crossing near Ammanford in Carmarthenshire is being investigated by the British Transport Police.
Arriva Trains Wales said the car crash happened just before 0900 BST and an elderly woman had to be cut free from her Vauxhall Corsa and treated in hospital for shock.
Fortunately, none of the 20 passengers on the 0534 Shrewsbury to Swansea service were injured, said transport police. Construction workers nearby were first on the car crash scene and looked after the woman until the ambulance crew arrived.
"She was concious, talking, there were no visible injuries, we moved the glass that was in her hair and on her clothes, checked she was OK and reassured her as best we could," said site manager Steve Windsor.
The car crash accident happened at low speed and the single-carriage train pushed the car to one side and was not de-railed, said police.
"The level crossing functioned properly and the train had permission to proceed". The crossing has flashing lights and warning sounds but no barriers.
Passengers completed their journeys by road and buses have replaced trains on the Heart of Wales line.
