Postmaster suffers head injury in botched robbery

A village postmaster from Wales has been rushed to hospital with a head injury after resisting two hooded robbers who staged a dawn raid.

The incident took place in the quiet village of Bethel, near Caernarfon, at just after six o'clock in the morning, and the robbers left empty-handed after the postmaster refused to open his safe.

Dressed in balaclavas and blue overalls, the attackers assaulted the post office manager, who has not been named, before escaping on foot and heading in the direction of Bangor. Police were called and sealed off the area, while paramedics attended to the victim's personal injuries before taking him to hospital.

After medical treatment for his head injury, the postmaster was released and a Post Office spokesman told the press, "He is receiving counselling and support from the Post Office managers and while police are at the scene, the post office and retail premises are closed."

"This was an extremely distressing incident for the sub postmaster and we appeal to the public to come forward to the police with any information leading to the arrest of those responsible."
